As someone deep in the heart of the autism world, you know that the journey doesn’t end with a diagnosis, it’s a lifelong path of navigating new chapters from childhood through adulthood.

I’ve been on this journey for 35 years now. Over that time, I’ve had the privilege of authoring books like Chicken Soup for the Soul: Children with Special Needs and The Official Autism 101 Manual, as well as hosting dozens of conferences across North America. I don’t claim to be a "know-it-all," but I have spent over three decades connecting the dots between those in need and the experts who can help.

I wanted to find a way to make all the knowledge I’ve gathered since founding Autism Today in 1998 accessible to everyone, everywhere.

I’ve spent the last year pouring my life’s work and "lessons learned" into a new platform. It’s a digital protégé designed to give you a leg up by providing targeted support and answers whenever you need them.

Introducing Little Rainman Too! 

Autism Through the Eyes of My Child  

We're so excited to share a look at Karen Simmons' revised book, "Little Rainman Too! Autism Through the Eyes of My Child"! With a beautiful foreword by Temple Grandin, this new, neurodiversity-affirming edition offers a truly unique perspective: the story is told by the autistic child himself, Jonathan.

Jonathan helps us understand the world through his senses, describing how he can see and hear better than most, but also how sounds like the blender or bright light humming can be overwhelming. He opens up about finding social things difficult, explaining that he struggles to focus on talking and playing at the same time. You'll read about the things that bring him joy, like spinning (which grown-ups call "stimming") and playing on his computer.

This book is a powerful reminder that every autistic person has unique strengths and deserves acceptance and the chance to thrive. Jonathan's voice is full of honesty, warmth, and a deep desire to be liked and accepted for who he is. Redefining Love on Your Own Terms

Valentine’s Day can bring many emotions for autistic adults, especially when love is often shaped by social expectations and media portrayals. Shows like Love on the Spectrum and The Good Doctor have helped increase visibility around autistic relationships, while also reminding us that love looks different for everyone. 

At Autism Today, we believe love doesn’t require a script—it can be found in romantic partnerships, friendship, chosen family, shared interests, or self-care. Valentine’s Day can also be a time to create more inclusive spaces and help facilitate social gatherings for those who find social settings more challenging. Have you ever noticed how music, color, or creating something with your hands can instantly shift your mood? For many in our community, creative expression is more than an activity—it’s a powerful way to communicate, regulate emotions, and connect with others. 

Especially during busy or disrupted times, art can offer comfort, calm, and a way to share feelings when words are hard to find. You don’t need fancy supplies—just time, curiosity, and space to create together. Whether it’s drawing, dancing, or trying something hands-on like our spinner puzzles, we invite you to explore creativity in a way that feels just right.
